84,000 Novenas for Pope Benedict’s 84th Birthday

Will you join me in saying ‘Thank You!’ to our Holy Father in a special way on his birthday?

A Papal Prayer Present

Pope Benedict XVI Novena
We are going to give ‘Il Papa’ a HUGE birthday present! Pope Benedict XVI’s birthday is coming up on April 16th. He’s turning 84 years old and I’m sure he can use all the prayers he can get while shepherding the Universal Church!

We are going to give the Pope the gift of prayer. We are going to lift him up in prayer for nine days straight. That’s right, we’re going to pray a birthday novena for the Pope.

84 Years - 84,000 Prayers

Pope Benedict XVI is turning 84!  There are over 1 Billion Catholics in the world, so we should be able to get 84,000 of them to pray for the Pope, right? Right! But it’s going to be hard… So, all you  papists out there get your friends from church together, call your Bible study or your CCD classmates and get everyone to sign up for this Novena for Pope Benedict XVI!

Last year, on his birthday, Pope Benedict asked that… “In these days, I ask you to pray for the needs of the universal church” so it might receive renewed “holiness, unity and missionary zeal.” Last year he asked everyone to pray for us (the Church)!!  This year we are all going to pray for him! Sign up here and then keep reading below!

INCENTIVE: If we reach 84,000 people praying the novena for the Pope, I will make sure the Pope personally knows of this gift of love for his birthday. I’m confident that faithful Catholics everywhere will step up and spread the word!

Let’s Do This!

I don’t know 84,000 people, but together I’m sure that we can reach this ambitious goal!  I can’t do this without you, so please do all of the following that you can!

  1. Invite your facebook friends to the facebook event click here.

  2. If you have a blog or website click here to see how you can help.

  3. Email all the faithful Catholics you know and ask them to join!

If you can do any or all of these things it would be a HUGE help. The novena starts on April 8th, so please start spreading the word about the Pope’s birthday gift now! I’m looking forward to praying together with you, your family, friends and thousands of others for our Holy Father!

God Bless You! P.S. Be sure to sign up for the novena by clicking here and then share it on facebook!

Prayers Answered and the Oldest Catholic Church in America

[caption id=”attachment_199” align=”alignright” width=”300” caption=”Oldest Catholic Church”]Oldest Catholic Church[/caption] The St. Joseph Novena was a great success for hundreds of the faithful! Many people really benefited from the spiritual blessings of praying a novena to such a wonderful saint.

Last week I was on vacation in Florida and I visited the oldest Catholic Church in America in St. Augustine, Florida. It was a tiny little church building that would only fit a handful of people for Mass. It was about a hundred yards away from a HUGE cross that was erected to commemorate the first Mass celebrated in North America. It was pretty great to see such an historical place! I got some nice photos and there was even a statue of St. Joseph right outside the Church. See photo below!

[caption id=”attachment_200” align=”alignleft” width=”117” caption=”Site of the First Mass”]site of the first mass[/caption] While I was in Florida I wasn’t keeping up with my email very well. When I returned I discovered several emails with great stories of how God answered prayers and how positive this past novena was.

It was beautiful to see that so many benefited from this novena.  It was our biggest novena yet with hundreds of people praying together. In fact, 113 new people joined the novena reminder email list. I’d love to share all of those stories with you, but many of them include personal details. However, here are some highlights:

Novena Prayers Answered

Job Offer:

One woman has been praying for nearly 3 years to get a job! She prayed to St. Joseph, knowing that he is the patron of workers and on March 17th (day 8 of our novena), she was offered a job that is in her words:

“Just what I wanted in so many ways.”

Spiritual Healing and Forgiveness:

[caption id=”attachment_201” align=”alignright” width=”206” caption=”St. Joseph Statue Outside Oldest Catholic Church”]St. Joseph novena[/caption]

A married couple who gives Catholic seminars for other couples began to pray the St. Joseph Novena and said:

“We experienced a lot of forgiveness and healing during the seminars, between couples who have had no time to have a deep dialog or prayer for sometime.”

They went on to say that they

“…personally believe that the intercession of Saint Joseph allowed us to connect to the couples, especially to the husbands…”

Growing in Peace:

One young lady who prayed the novena is a college student and a friend of mine. She prayed this novena for her father. She prayed that he would grow in holiness and strength as a father. As the novena progress she was able to spend time in prayer with her father and in her email to me she said that

“…it was cool to see how he grew in peace as I prayed the Novena everyday. Thank You, Jesus for answered prayers!”

God does answer prayers! If you have any examples of how he has answered prayers for you feel free to add them in the comment box below (remember that if you comment, it will be public).

Catholic Prayer

A lot of types of Catholic Prayer exist. All of these are meant to help everyday, faithful catholics in the pews to come closer to God.

What does coming closer to God mean?

It means having a relationship with him. That sounds kind of funny doesn’t it? Isn’t God a immaterial being who is aloof and far away? How does one actually build a real relationship with a God like that?

Many people have these questions. They want to know how to connect with God, but usually in their hearts, (sometimes in my heart as well) they believe that it is utterly impossible! How could one actually have a REAL relationship with God?

To many people it’s hard to have relationships with other human beings let alone a being that you cannot see, feel, smell or touch!

So, what is the key? What is the key to finding and building that relationship with God? What is the key to filling in the holes that are in my life and in my heart right now?

The Key:

The key is prayer.

The key is faithful prayer.

The key is openness to faithful prayer.

The key is consistent openness to faithful prayer.

Let’s break that down.

What is prayer?

Prayer is recognizing God’s presence first. Then it is communicating with God either actively or passively.

What is faithful prayer?

Faithful prayer is that recognition of God’s presence and that communication with God that is sincere. Many people attempt to pray without being sincere at all. They then give up because they feel that prayer is useless.

They didn’t approach it properly. They didn’t approach it with sincerity or ‘faithfulness’. That is the problem.

Many others have very deep life changing conversions after they pray with sincerity. Even after attempting to pray in the past. Once they finally do it with sincerity it can be a life changing experience. This is because you’re giving God permission to act in your life… Not just talking in your head.

What is openness?

Openness is similar to sincerity but it has more to do with your disposition to reciprocating. Where sincerity is giving God permission to act, openness is giving yourself permission to reciprocate and to respond to God’s actions.

What is consistency?

This one is pretty easy. Basically it just means that you keep going. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.  That’s what friendships take right?

Why should it be any different when you’re talking with and building a relationship with God?

Your Tools for Catholic Prayer

As I mentioned before, there are many ways for Catholics to pray. Here again is the list. I will describe each one in depth later.

Lectio Divina

The Prayer of Jabez

The novena tends to by one of my favorites :) So, I hope you enjoy that one!

Remember, consistency is key!
